Many PEO brokers enter the field with the idea that they will "do everything" to maintain the relationship between the PEO and client account. This can include:
New client setup – I9s, W2s, health questionnaires, etc.
Payroll time collection and reporting
New hire form completion
Employee termination forms

While these task may be requirements to start and sustain the PEO relationship with the account, StaffMarket advises brokers to carefully consider their ongoing role in the client – PEO relationship. Most PEOs will want a direct relationship with the client and having a broker in the middle of every communication adds marginal value and consumes the broker’s valuable time.

Independent Broker

In our opinion the true value of the PEO broker is to continually monitor the client – PEO relationship and to elevate problems to the proper person at the PEO if a problem develops. If the PEO is delivering an unsatisfactory experience to the client then the broker is there to offer alternate solutions. This leaves the broker free to pursue other prospects (to create more commissions!) without getting bogged down in every aspect of ongoing relationship.
